Twenty-Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 9: 46-50

An argument arose among the disciples about which of them was the greatest. Jesus realized the intention of their hearts and took a child and placed it by his side and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest.” Then John said in reply, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow in our company.” Jesus said to him, “Do not prevent him, for whoever is not against you is for you.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

FROM the Gospel today we learn that following Jesus Christ is not about striving for prestige and recognition. Instead, it is about humility and service.

Jesus Christ explains in what greatness consists. It is the acceptance of the weakest and most defenseless, in his name. This requires a humble heart.

We hear and read the same Gospel passages year after year, yet we still fall into sins of pride. We might think ourselves better and smarter and even holier than the others.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we adore Jesus Christ who has given us the best example in being humble and serving others faithfully. Are we like a dictator? Do we always want to show others “who’s the boss”, or is our attitude one of service?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, only in you, we find all our joy and happiness. We are sinners; nevertheless, you have given us so many blessings. We humbly thank you. Teach us to see ourelves as the least of all, as one called to serve all now and forever. Amen.
