Memorial of the Guardian Angels

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Matthew 18:1-5, 10

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them, and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

TODAY is the memorial of the Guardian Angels. Through them, God dwells with the lowly and regards us with compassion. His angels watch over us as guardians.

About the Guardian Angels, the Psalmist says, “For he will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11).  God gives us Guardian Angels for he has not left us alone in our struggle “to refuse evil and to choose good” (Isaiah 7:15).

The Guardian Angels God’s messengers and protectors for us. In the Scripture, we read so many  examples of how they  serve as messengers and our protectors. When Daniel was thrown into a den of hungry lions, an angel protected him from harm (Daniel 6:22). Angels ministered to Jesus after his temptation in the wilderness and during his agony in the Garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22:43). St. Peter realized and exclaimed, “Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me” (Acts 12:11).

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we with the angels stand beside each of us we adore Jesus Christ. Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, we, too, join with the angelic choirs of heaven in singing the praises of God.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for your guidance and protection through the angels. Give us strength of will and courage to refuse what is evil and to choose what is good now and forever. Amen.
