Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Luke 6:20-26

And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. “Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh. “Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. “But woe to you that are rich, for you have received your consolation. “Woe to you that are full now, for you shall hunger. “Woe to you that laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. “Woe to you, when all men speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

WHAT the lesson can we take from the Gospel today? Jesus Christ gives us a way of happiness. We call it the beatitudes. He gives it to help us reach the true happiness.

Jesus Christ begins his sermon on the mount by addressing the issue of where true happiness can be found. His way of happiness demands a transformation from within that is a conversion of heart and mind which can only come about through the gift and working of the Holy Spirit.

According to Jesus Christ, true happiness can be found in poverty, hunger, mourning, and persecution. It means that we will be filled with true happiness of heaven, if we empty ourselves of all. Poverty, hunger, mourning, and persecution find ample room and joy in possessing God alone as the greatest treasure possible. It leads to joyful freedom from the burden of guilt and oppression.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ and ask him his way of happinnes comes true in our lives. He promises us that true happibess of heaven will more than compensate for the troubles and hardships we can expect in this world.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you show us the way that leads to everlasting happiness and peace. We want to experience true happiness of hungering and thirsting for God alone. We hunger for you. We desire you above all else. Help us Lord to experience true happinnes now and forever. Amen.
