The first Week of Lent

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 5:43-48

“You have heard that it was said, `You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that we “must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect”. What does it mean and how can we pursuit it?

Jesus commands us to be perfect. This is not a suggestion; it is a command. It is even God’s plan. He says it not only to his disciples but to each of us today. Is it impossible? No, for God, nothing is impossible. Jesus is the Son of God, so nothing is impossible too for him.

Be perfect like our Heavenly Farher is perfect! Trully, again and again, Jesus wants us to be holy. With this commandment Jesus reminds us today that our holiness is a possibility.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while adoring Jesus Christ we humbly learn to be perfect. There we respond to Jesus’ command that we have to strive after the perfection of holiness.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you challenge us to be perfect. With living faith and childlike simplicity, we know and understand that you want us to seek holiness. It is a labor of love. Lord, make us holy for the sake of our brothers and sisters, for their salvation through Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, now and forever. Amen.
