ONLY just one minute? Seems like it means nothing. Perhaps because it goes by without feeling or notice it. After all it is only 60 beats. One beat is equal to one second.

Really, we cannot feel it, therefore it’s meaningless. So often, we treat these groups of minutes like a flowing water…. flowing aimlessly, without given the ending point. Flow, flows, and keep flowing.

In the flow of time, each minute brings two choices; positive or negative, joy or sorrow, beauty or ugliness, success or failure, straight or crooked path, etc. Have we every pause and think how valuable a minute really is?

I remember a historic meeting between Chinese and Taiwanese leaders: President  Xi Jinping and President Ma Yingjeou which took place in November 2015 in Singapore. They met for the first time and shook each other’s hands for a very short time, less than a minute.

President Xi Jinping said, “We are brothers” while Taiwanese President Ma Yingjeou spoke about peace-making. Since that minute, both leaders exchange their ideas and views about how they can enhance their relationship across the strait of peace.

How important the brotherliness and peace that they need from each other? The two countries were separated for sixty years. There is still political disagreement between them. However, since that hand-shake that lasted less than one minute, their relationship seemed to be quite cordial and significantly improving.

I also heard another statement not long ago saying that “if you want to know what’s the meaning of one second, then ask someone who escape a collapse building. If you want to know what’s the meaning of one minute, ask a flight passenger whose plane has just left the runway”.

So, we safely say that each beat in each minute is really valuable in our lives. By valuing one minute, we cannot imagine the happiness that you will experience in your life.

Many of us still cannot grasp the meaning and value of one minute, when we in fact say that “it’s just one minute”.

One Minute: Time is What We Do with It (1)

What’s the importance of it?

Taking shower, studying, praying, working, one minute is not enough for each of these activities. If so, well, just be it. Let that one-minute passes by. However, if we are wise, the gift of one minute has potential for writing a book, increasing our mental capacity, increase our knowledge, widening our perspective, and accumulating our skill.

Because in one minute, we can pray in thanksgiving and asking for God’s grace. Because in one minute we can also hear God’s Word in the Bible which in turn will make us know God even better.

We are encouraged to value one minute in our lives. Let us arrange our daily lives beginning with the first minute, because that first minute in our life will never come back again.

Time is like a river. You can’t touch the same water twice, because the water has passed will never pass again.

God in one minute

We face  so many choices in our lives. Choosing between Yes or No. Choosing between the best for one’s self or for others. Choosing between “straight” or crooked ways and still many other choices.

Before making any choice, we are often faced with internal conflict as well. Conflict between following our personal desires and wants or putting others need first. Therefore, so often a decision made in one minute determines the outcome of our choice. (Continued)
