Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 18:35-43

Now as Jesus approached Jericho a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging, and hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” He shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” The people walking in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent, but he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me!”

Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He replied, “Lord, please let me see.” Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.” He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory to God. When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

From the Gospel today we learn to see Jesus Christ with the eyes of faith as being done by the blind man he heals. In his blindness he cries to Jesus, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” Jesus not only hears his crying but also heals him.

In fact, Jesus Christ wants us to see in our lives opportunities to turn to him, the source of the strength and help we need. We may experience some voices which tell us to be quiet. But never give up. Jesus Christ is surely the only one who can bring us the peace we desire and long for.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we adore Jesus Christ who promises us that he will listen to our prayer. There we ask him the ability to see everything from God’s vantage point and to see how the difficulties and trials we experience are part of his salvation. Do we regularly ask for an increase of faith? Are we aware of how much we need a strong faith?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, grant us greater faith in your constant and continual presence in our life. Increase our faith so that we will be able to see you and experience your love even amidst difficulty and trials now and forever. Amen.
