Twenty-Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 9: 51-56

When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today proclaims that Jesus resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem. He went to Jerusalem for giving himself to set us free from our sins. Surely he approached his battle in Jerusalem like a sheep being led to the slaughter.

We learn quickly that the weapon of attack is humility. Jesus’ strategy is kindness, gentleness, charity and humility.

When the fanaticism of the Samaritans would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem, Jesus journeyed to another village. Simple as that, the strategy of the humility of Jesus!

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we adore Jesus Christ who had set his face toward Jerusalem to die on a cross for us. There we learn to be humble with him. We pray not only for our friends and relatives but also for those who hate us. How do we treat those who cross us and cause us trouble? Do we seek their good rather than their harm?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you are gracious and merciful to each of us. Help us to prefer the virtue of humility over our pride now and forever. Amen.
