Memorial of Saint Josaphat, Bishop and Martyr

Dear my friends,

Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 18:1-8

Then Jesus told them a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, “There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, ‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’ For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, ‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'”

The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

In the Gospel today, Jesus Christ teach us to pray always, unceasingly. He tells us a parable about the necessity for us to pray always without becoming weary. He is very right because we realize that we can easily become weary in prayer, especially when we don’t see results.

Surely, prayer is a gift. It comes from the Holy Spirit. But it also requires effort on our part, for it is an act of love, self-giving. It is about giving ourselves and depending more on God. It works if we persevere and allow God to act.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while adoring Jesus Christ we learn to pray always without becoming weary. We pray as beloved children for whom he died and to whom he gives everything. If we are all this and more for him, why do we still doubt in prayer and adoration?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, help us to pray always without becoming weary. Help us to trust you in our everyday life. Help us to persevere in prayer and adoration. Teach us what prayer is and how to do it well for love of you and of others now and forever. Amen.
