Second Week of Advent

Dear my friends,

Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 18:12-14

Jesus Christ says, “What do you think?  If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN the Gospel today Jesus Christ tells us a parable that gives us a glimpse of the heart of a true shepherd. And the true shepherd is Jesus himself, the face of God’s mercy. He has even left the safety of heaven to find us the lost one, to find you and me.

With this parable Jesus Christ wants to teach us that it does not please God the Father that anyone is lost. So, he leaves the ones that have been saved and seeks the one lost. Then when he finds the one that has gone astray, he rejoices greatly at its discovery and at its safety.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we adore Jesus Christ, the Best Shepherd who loves all of us. He doesn’t want any of us to be in danger, to be lost, and even to perish. It is why the Son of God has come and incarnated in Jesus Christ, Immanuel.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you are the face of God’s mercy. You do not rejoice in the loss of anyone, but desire that we be saved and restored to friendship with God. May we listen to your voice. Help us to follow a path that leads to life rather than death in your mercy now and forever. Amen.
