Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 11: 20-24

Jesus began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And as for you, Capernaum: Will you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to the netherworld. For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

LET’S read this Gospel reading today in the light of Jesus’ word as noted by St. Luke. “From everyone who has been given much, will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked” (Luke 12:48b).

The mighty deeds Jesus worked in Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum were not seen by everyone in Israel. The miracles had not moved them to a deeper faith. So Jesus reproached them to awaken them from their stupor.

What we can learn from this Gospel? First, it is about  blessings and responsibility. With every blessing comes a degree of responsibility. Second, that we will be judged for our actions and our faith. Judgment from God has varying degrees. God sees and knows perfectly, the judgment will be objective. Finally, God will handsomely reward our smallest good deed. We have to be more generous with God and more centered on doing his will.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who has given us so many blessings. So we must be more respobsible to do the best for his glory. Are we more focused on pleasing God in the details of our life?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for reminding us of the importance of our daily blessings and responsibility. Yes, the goal of all of your signs is to bring about a change of heart. Open our eyes to the constant workings of your grace in our life now and forever. Amen.
