Twenty-Eighth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 11:47-54

The Lord said: “Woe to you! You build the memorials of the prophets whom your ancestors killed. Consequently, you bear witness and give consent to the deeds of your ancestors, for they killed them and you do the building. Therefore, the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; some of them they will kill and persecute’ in order that this generation might be charged with the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who died between the altar and the temple building. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be charged with their blood! Woe to you, scholars of the law! You have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter and you stopped those trying to enter.” When he left, the scribes and Pharisees began to act with hostility toward him and to interrogate him about many things, for they were plotting to catch him at something he might say.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN today’s Gospel we still read how Jesus Christ critizes the scribes and the Pharisees. Their response to Jesus’ love is pocked with infidelity, abuse, and ingratitude. They reject God and whomever he sends to guide them back to his loving care.

We can use this as a mirror in which to regard our own lives. We can recognize the same patterns of failure and lack of fidelity in our own lives and use this self-reflection to inspire us to return to the God through Jesus Christ.

We will be like the scribes and the Pharisees to whom Jesus Christ spoke, if we fail to admit our weaknesses and failures because of our stubbornness and hardness of heart.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while adoring Jesus Christ there in silence we spend a few moments with him in the Most Blessed Sacrament. We can serve as an occasion of grace he grants us. It is our living witness which is critical for those around us, whether or not we ever see or hear of the consequence.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, You have the confidence to use us as channel of your grace for those around us. We offer you our life today. Use us as channel of grace and testimony to your love to others now and forever. Amen.
