Saturday Prayer for Priests
Memorial of Saint Paul Miki and Companions, Martyrs

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Mark 6:30-34

The apostles returned to Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a lonely place by themselves. Now many saw them going, and knew them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns, and got there ahead of them. As he went ashore he saw a great throng, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN the Gospel today we encounter Jesus Christ who invites his disciples to come away by themselves to a lonely place, and rest a while. Jesus knows that his disciples need to rest after their long stint of missionary work. They need to replenish energies, physical, mental and spiritual.

It is not laziness. It is not also a place to lose the spiritual tautness of our soul towards God and the readiness to do God’s will at all times. In their time to rest, they have to be ready to do God’s will in everything by being always ready to serve others.

As we read in the Gospel, Jesus’ compassionate heart is always active, and even with rest on his mind. He is moved to give himself to the people who need to hear the Word of God.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while worshipping Jesus Christ we also come ourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while with him. There we also ask to be ready to serve others and to glorify God.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, we believe that you are present here. Help us to find our true rest in you. Despite our weaknesses, sins and imperfections you love us. So, thank you Lord for your love. Use us as you wish to love, serve, and bring others closer to you now and forever. Amen.
